The Barefoot Contour headpiece is shaped in the neck area so that it cannot put any pressure on this sensitive area between the horse's ears. It is strongly curved forward and lies in front of the base of the neckband. The main contact surface is on the left and right behind the ears, on the neck muscle. The area around the ears is cut out and cushioned, softly padded.
Browband and noseband also have a contour:
The noseband is shaped upwards. This means that the noseband rests on the wider part of the nose bone. This eliminates any obstruction to breathing.
2-in-1: The headpiece can be used with or without a bit. The cheekpiece can simply be removed; it is attached with a Chicago screw. The browband, neck and nose piece are softly lined throughout, including in the buckle area and around the horse's ears.
We did not use the locking strap for reasons of horse-friendliness. We think locking straps are unnecessary.
A horse that trusts the rider's hand will not open its mouth unless it has dental problems or doesn't like the bit. These problems can be solved sensibly through regular dental checks or a bitless bridle - and not by tying up the horse's mouth.
